    Thank you for the video. Really liked your idea of the plastic tubing to make a larger, easier to see demonstration. Just a thought, would it work to put various colors of glitter inside the tube, then make a chain? Mostly for home/holiday decorative garlands/streamers. Like draped around a Christmas tree, up and down a stair banister, inside ceiling of a wedding reception tent, etc. The bigger chain you did was so much easier to see in the video. Would be fun to find a use for such a large scale chain and an additional way to display your chainmaking skills. Follow up thought, perhaps a necklace to go with an Alice and Wonderland "I shrank" stage costume?

      The original video with this design was very popular so I made a few variations on a theme hoping to get as many views. It’s surprising how malleable silver can be when needed and this technique relies on that. The trick for getting this to work is lots of annealing at every step of the way. I only occasionally sell stuff to friends and family, being a hobbyist it’s more about enjoying the pure pleasure of creativity. Making videos and UA-cam is more rewarding than trying to make jewellery to sell and a lot less demanding … N

    My absolute favourite chain. I love love these I have about 4 all in the 50-90grams. I'd love a home hand made one. I'll try it with copper and see how I get on it looks like silver is much easier to work with. But silver at the moment is expensive as can be to purchase so gotta wait but it will also give me time to harness my skills on copper anyhow then when I'm able I'll buy silver wires and maybe attempt my own. I do adore byzantine but also always too long I'd love a 17inch one about 9mm. But can't find. Only 22inch the smallest. And then they are tiny tiny like under 20grams. Strange will watch this video 20x or more to really understand how to make it. Even in copper I think it would be stunning

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff 7 днів тому

      I also admire the byzantine weave probably my favourite, so versatile and leads onto many other variations. I’m very precious with my silver so only commit myself to using it after lots of testing and practising with copper first to see if I like what I’m trying to achieve. Having more time than money, making my own wire seems to save a little bit rather than purchasing new. I bought a silver bar many years ago and I’m still working my way through it … N

    • @kirtandrews1859
      @kirtandrews1859 6 днів тому

      @Nickscreativestuff I can imagine though st the moment purchasing silver bars must be cheaper than buying new or recycled silver. I detest paying more than a £1 a gram. I have collars 200grams that cost me under a £100. I think once I have honed my skills I will buy bulk used scrap silver and use that. By the time I'm ready to move onto silver I'll need to buy a rolling mill too so I can get scrap and forge it into usesble metal. Currently I buy sheet copper brass aluminium and copper wires. I've been using currently. And yes like you all my designs will start life as copper and may keep as copper as I love it. Or when finance and skills are inlign I'll purchase some silver scrap and forge that. I have my eye on a rolling mill for under £150 perfect to start off with. But gotta get of the ground and learn how to make the basics of everything then make to sell . Then use thst income to put back in and invest in rolling mill etc. I have everything else almost apart from rolling mill. Oh and a proper anvil

    • @kirtandrews1859
      @kirtandrews1859 6 днів тому

      @Nickscreativestuff To be totally honest I appreciate anything hand made thsts not from China or of a conveyor belt. Jewellery is tactile we wear it on are skin we want ti feel the expertise the charm elegance everything aboit that piece. I never get that with store bought. I have also been stockpiling a load of baltic amber too all various sizes to do some beading with and also set into rings necklaces earrings bangles you name it. I adore amber . And silver or copper with amber is just a perfect marriage if you ask me. I get fed up paying the odds or being stung with customs. So I decided years ago I'd buy all the materials and make my own I can never find what I'm truly looking for anyhow especially in amber. So all my items are going to be designed by me made by me and sourced by me. As I know each seller of amber extremely well I know what ny business has supported there families etc. So I have a good foundation if you like. Just gotta get thst energy I need and pain controlled ti get in my studio to start! And oh yes I have about 5 hours of unpacking and sorting before I fan begin too as my studio is just crammed full of dumped parcels

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff 5 днів тому

      I think your idea of reusing scrap silver is possibly the most economical way of finding material to play with. I once tried buying some from High Street dealer, it didn’t work out as he wanted more than the cost of casting grain from Cookson’s per gram. Seemed a bit pointless unless I was going to keep the hallmarking and some of the styling. I’m a believer in “a cheap tool is better than no tool” so I invested in a budget rolling mill many years ago thinking I would upgrade it one day when needed. That day has never come and the budget mill is still going strong and is fine for what I need at the moment … N

      your pile of Amber sounds fabulous a nice treasure to cherish. learning to cut and polish would be the challenge for me although it does look great natural and set with a handmade look. Sounds like you’re in a very unique position being able to receive Amber from source, cutting out all the commercial middlemen must be very reassuring and satisfying. @Nickscreativestuff I was thinking of ordering some of the map gas ? It's supposedly better for copper work. Pumice wise I bought 6 or 8 fairly large avocado sized but only 1cm thick so I figure I can out them all together in my rectangle pan and create a leveling surface . Will I still need a thick solder brick too? Or will I be OK annealing and soldering with what I've mentioned? What's your thoughts ? Thank you kirt

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff 7 днів тому

      A lot of people like to use mapp gas as it is that bit hotter than propane or butane alone. I think your pumice blocks will be a great start for annealing and soldering on. There’s a lot of choice for soldering blocks and it depends on what you will mostly be doing. A cheap general purpose soldering block from somewhere like cousinsUK.com is a nice large flat surface for a variety of jobs. Beyond this a soft charcoal block is my favourite to use as it’s very clean to solder on and are easily modify, however they don’t last long. Honeycomb blocks are more expensive and break easily however great for assembly of components as pins can be used for positioning and the holes can also be used for wiring … N

      @Nickscreativestuff Thank you ok so I shall go ahead with my pumice blocks for now untill I find a rthym of what I am mainly doing snd decide from there. I know it won't be honeycomb as break ti easy. And because I'm a big worry freak I'll be extra careful so the flame won't be out of control at any time so I'll be fine using what I have I'm just over worrying as usual. Fab thank you

      @Nickscreativestuff usually my phone is on silent due to my anxiety at the time I watched your video my volume happened to be up which is extremely rare indeed I don't even know my own ringtone when my anxiety is bad I csnt have any sounds at all ots quite sad. But I know your videos are worth watching so I put sound on and yeah got drawn in. As for viking weave I bought a cheap dowel for about £2 a 158meter 24ga copper from temu for about £8. It's such a simple technique but you gotta give it a try stleast 5x before you get the swing of how tight to hold the dowel or the copper. There's some fantastic teachers on here teaching us. Once it's done on a dowel you then you'll through a drawplate to tske it to mm you require and I gotta say even a 26ga drawn down to a 6mm looks absolutely incredible. And best bit you only need to weave about a inch which for me takes about 15mins and thsts enough for a bracelet! I use a 10mm dowel with 26ga copper wire. And yeah about a inch or two will reward you with a bracelet. Then add on lobster or tbar. When you have dome free time give it a go if I can do it anyone can especially yourself whom has plenty experience working with metals

If it was me personally I'd go with a bit of spa you know Nepalese bells maybe with some wave background noise. That to me would relax and unwind me ready for learning you see. But honest the music in your vdoe is beautiful I always say a amazing film can be ruined if it does not have a fab background music to draw you through it.

And I have spent aboit £1500 on every tool form material known to man and converted my large greenhouse into a studio wirh solar lighting and ventilation and a blacked out roof so I don't roast in the UK heatwaves we have been getting yearly and made my own workbench with everything custom to me for height comfort etc just gotta wait for a day when I am able. I'm a stay at home disabled man you see. I have about 13 main medical issues 3 of which are very serious indeed and causes me to have pain 24/7 and in turn it drains my energy But I get days when my pain is managed and I have energy. So it's just waiting and on meantime feasting on educational videos like yours I can learn something from. Even when in pain and my ostomy is killing me my brain is constantly buzzing. Not easy having disabilities but it sounds like you have your home environment well sorted. I’ve heard from a fair few people with a variety of conditions that are into jewellery making, it seems to suit well as it’s not too heavy going and they can have a home set up suited to there needs. In someway knowing your limitations is a great advantage as some people get disappointed as they try to achieve more than their capable of, resulting in endless disappointments and failures … N

      @Nickscreativestuff Yes I couldn't agree more I have loved with ny health since ii was 8. I have maintained full time jobs until I was 22. Then when I moved to London for my jobm my health went boom. About 6 things all came to light. And I had 4 surgeries all within a year. I have been in St Mary's hospital for every year the new royal children were born Charlotte Louis and george. I was there for a entire year in 2017 2019 and 2021 a entire year staring at 4 walls watching birthdays Xmas all pass me by. I learned I am resilient stubborn and creative. And I promised myself when I got back home proper home I'd set up a studio to donany arts crafts I want something to enjoy I'm 36 now I've been in 24/7 pain since 2012 minimum I need enjoyment and a relief so my studio is now kitten out etc I'm just learning the things I need. And waiting on that golden day when my pain levels are controlled and my energy levels alow me. And as for my knitting same as your mum I can watch tv whilst I'm knitting away. Just need to polish up my end pieces you know the end caps and sheiherds hooks. That part I'm terrible at. I need to finish them up then I will have a sslable product.

      Sounds like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards with your health but have now come out the other end and what you can handle. Nothing quite like home for comfort and stability, allowing those creative juices to be flowing. I find achieving a neat finish is always a bit of a challenge with chains and bracelets I tend to go for the easy option of a lobster clasp. I find it really hard selling stuff however if somebody really likes and wants it I tend to let it go … N

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff 21 день тому

      Hi Max, there’s a few issues it could be, good adhesion of the laser printer toner resist is important in the first place. I make sure the surface of the copper is roughed up with abrasive paper to give it a good key and to make sure it’s very clean I use acetone to remove any contaminants. The other issue I found is the power or voltage used for etching after playing around with a few options, I found 4.5v works well for me … N
